Tragedy in our Small Town

I don't have a project to share today, but I do have a very sad story. I live in a small town in Northern New York, where a tragedy has fallen. On Sunday January 3rd at around 3am a fire broke out and killed a family of 8. The family consisted of 4 adults and 4 children ranging in age from only 4 months to 10 years. The house was completely destroyed. All that is left is a pile of ash and debris. The only survivor was the owner of the house that had made it safely outside, but then had to be restrained by the police and but in handcuffs to keep him from going back in to save the rest of his family. There was nothing that anyone could do but watch as the fire swept through the house, knowing that there were people inside. Even though the fire department had arrived in less than a minute the house was already engulfed. Several of the fireman knew the people that lived in this home and could do nothing. They could only fight the fire from the outside hoping that just maybe they would be able to get it under control and rescue the trapped occupants. But with heavy hearts they watched as the house collapsed onto its self. The news has been in are small town for days reporting the disaster. There is one thing that I almost forgot to tell. The house had no working smoke detectors, if it had they may have been saved.

Today they layed to rest 4 of the family members. Two of the adults and the two youngest victims. I watched on the news how family and friends showed up to pay their last respects to the victims. Many of them wanting to know why this happened and how it happened. So please if you get anything from this tragedy, let it be that you make sure that your smoke detectors are working properly. And if for some reason you don't have any, this will make you go out and buy some. I know that I checked mine and made sure that the battery was brand new. I will also be going out and buying a few more just to be safe.

Please send your prayers and be safe.
